《Republicanism》

This is the first full-length presentation of a republican alternative to the liberal and communitarian theories that have dominated political philosophy in recent years. The book examines what the implementation of the ideal would imply for substantive policy-making, constitutional and democratic design, regulatory control and the relation between state and civil society. 菲利普•佩迪特（Philip Noel Pettit），1945年出生于爱尔兰，曾长期任教于澳大利亚国立大学，拥有爱尔兰和澳大利亚双重国籍；当代著名社会理论家，享有多种学术荣誉并担任多种学术职务，现为美国普林斯顿大学威廉•尼尔森•克伦威尔政治学教授（William Nelson Cromwell Professor of Politics）；其主要著作包括：《判断正义》（Judging Justice，1980）、《不仅仅是惩罚》（Not Just Deserts，合著，1990）、《罗尔斯》（Rawls，合著，1990）、《大众的心智》（The Common Mind，1993）、《共和主义》（Republicanism，1997/平装本，1999）、《伦理学的三种方法》（Three Methods of Ethics，合著，1997）、《一种自由理论》（A Theory of Freedom，2001）以及论文集《规则、理性与规范》（Rules, Reasons, and Norms，2002）等，其中《共和主义》一书已经拥有多种语言的译本。译者刘训练，1977年生于江苏省射阳县，现为天津师范大学政治与行政学院教师，天津师范大学政治文化研究中心研究人员。主要研究方向为西方政治思想史和当代西方政治哲学，目前主要从事如下专题的译介和研究工作：西方政治思想中的共和主义传统及其当代复兴、西方政治哲学中的自由问题。有译著多种。
